چکیده

This paper discusses a number of research areas concerned with dynamic traffic management, including forecasting, simulation and, ultimately, control of motorway traffic flow. A detailed non-linear simulation of the Amsterdam A10 west ring road, utilising a dynamic state space representation called the Statistical Traffic Model (STM) is described. The simulation is employed in the development of a robust, coordinated ramp metering system, based on the Non-Minimal State Space (NMSS) approach to control design, which yields adaptive Proportional-Integral-Plus (PIP) controllers. Finally, when employed in predictive mode, the STM requires forecasts of the on-ramp inputs to the motorway. One approach to obtaining such univariate forecasts, namely Dynamic Harmonic Regression (DHR) is also discussed.

Modelling Unsignalised Traffic Flow with Reference to Urban and Interurban Networks

A new variant of cellular automata (CA) models is proposed, based on Minimum Acceptable Space (MAP) rules, to study unsignalised traffic flow at two-way stop-controlled (TWSC) intersections and roundabouts in urban and interurban networks. Categorisation of different driver behaviour is possible, based on different space requirements (MAPs), which allow a variety of conditions to be considered....

Framework for Traffic Pattern Identification: Required Step for Short-term Forecasting

In the world of transport management, the term ‘anticipation’ is gradually replacing ‘reaction’. Indeed, the ability to forecast traffic evolution in a network should ideally form the basis for many traffic management strategies and multiple ITS applications. Real-time prediction capabilities are therefore becoming a concrete need for the management of networks, both for urban and interurban en...

Optimal Signal Control in Urban Road Networks with High Priority Congested Centers

Keeping the density of traffic flow and air pollution in an acceptable level and developing a good capacity for transit in the high priority areas of the city, is really a big deal in large and crowded cities. To address this problem, a new method of intersection signal optimization is presented in this paper. Based on network fundamental diagrams, an Internal–External Traffic Metering Strategy...

Continuous ACO in a SVR Traffic Forecasting Model

The effective capacity of inter-urban motorway networks is an essential component of traffic control and information systems, particularly during periods of daily peak flow. However, slightly inaccurate capacity predictions can lead to congestion that has huge social costs in terms of travel time, fuel costs and environment pollution. Therefore, accurate forecasting of the traffic flow during p...

Project Time and Cost Forecasting using Monte Carlo simulation and Artificial Neural Networks

The aim of this study is to present a new method to predict project time and cost under uncertainty. Assuming that what happens in projects implementation which is expressed in the form of Earned Value Management (EVM) indicators is primarily related to the nature of randomness or unreliability, in this study, by using Monte Carlo simulation, and assuming a specific distribution for the time an...
